The Hermitage was exactly what we were hoping for!
My husband and I are from a town a couple of hours from Columbus and wanted to get away to celebrate our 11th wedding anniversary. I researched places extensively and decided that we would both enjoy the solitude of The Hermitage. It was exactly what we were hoping for. It was secluded, rustic, spacious and set in beautiful surroundings. We enjoyed making dinner together and eating out on the patio. We watched the lightning storms and listening to the birds. We went into Red lodge and had lunch, but otherwise we just enjoyed the cabin. The mamma deer and her twins came by each morning and hung close to the cabin. We also saw the small buck a few times. We saw an owl, hummingbirds and many other birds.
The cabin had everything you could need, including kitchen utensils, pans, dishes, spices, even some pantry items. There were extra towels and extra sheets. There was even some shampoo, conditioner and soap, which were things that I had forgotten. There were games to play, some DVDs and even some CDs. I've read in other reviews about the cell service. It is not great. You can get it, but it comes and goes. Certain parts of the house get better service than others. Honestly, we didn't need to have service, but it was nice to send a text here and there to check on our house, pets and kids.
There is plenty of room for people to sleep. There is a queen bed in the master loft, a blow-up mattress and bedding in the smaller loft, a futon in the TV room and then another pull out bed in the basement. The basement was VERY damp smelling. That is not out of the ordinary for a rustic cabin, but I'm glad I didn't have to sleep down there.
I could see a family coming here. I think kids would really enjoy the cabin and its surroundings. It's also in an excellent location for visiting Yellowstone or fishing the area's rivers. Cooney Reservoir is also very close and a fun place to recreate.
The place cooled off good at night and we closed it up in the mornings before it started to warm up. One review I read stated there were "lots" of fans to use to cool the place off. We could only find one, up in the master loft. That one was very much needed to cool off the upper level. My one and only suggestion would be to have another fan or maybe even two available on the main level.
All in all, we THOROUGHLY enjoyed the cabin and our anniversary trip. We are already telling our friends about it and looking at when we can visit The Hermitage again.
Cabin was great.
Wonderful Week in Montana
Amazing cabin! My wife and I enjoyed the cabin and the location, quiet and very peaceful. We hope to return again soon.
The cabin was built by the owner and reflects his personality and values. You feel like you know him after a couple of days!
Nice cabin and remote area just what we were looking for.
Great experience, beautiful area and close enough to outdoor activities.
Beautifully built, unique cabin
The cabin is absolutely gorgeous! Very special place, created by hand and cared for. Quiet, rustic, isolated, set in a beatiful little gorge. A little buck with velvet horns visited each day. Peaceful time spent on the deck and fun family game time each night.
The driveway was a bit rutted from the rains and the road up to the cabin is a steep one-lane road, just be prepared. There was plenty of space for our group of 6 but no secluded rooms (lofts are open, beautiful spiral stairs are open up and down), again just be prepared for that. Cell service was spotty and inconsistent for us.
Looking forward to returning again, next year!
Great place to stay!
We loved the time we spent at this cabin. It has a great deck on the back with some awesome views! Very peaceful and tranquil. I loved listening to the wind in the trees. If you want that quintessential cabin in the woods this is it:)
