Tranquil, beautiful retreat is unforgettable
While this upscale property is a bit tough to find, it is an unexpected delight. We stayed in the downstairs unit which has a complete kitchen, beautiful decor, a comfortable couch, plush bed, heavenly shower, and even an adjacent laundry room. While it gets a little humid and warm during the day, ceiling fans and trade winds cool off the place for a mostly peaceful night. (The frogs get a little loud, so bring ear plugs.) Outside the deck is a 1992 era lava field that leads to the ocean and exemplifies how the Big Island continues to create land. And how the Pacific Ocean slams into the cliffs and wages a battle against tumbled lava walls. We swam in nearby tidal pools, drove down an enchanted forest road, went to the Hawaii National Volcanoes Park and were there when Pele brought the Kilauea caldera to life! It was slightly bubbling and smoking the first visit, and a few days later it was a flaming lava lake.
If you are looking for a retreat in the middle of a lush rainforest, with a nearby volcano, and with so much to explore, this is the place to be. It was a disappointment to leave our beautiful place and tour the other side of the island, and check into a hotel. We missed our Zen, quiet, contemplative, charming, abode. Good bye, frogs. Good bye, fresh limes on the tree. Good bye, amazing, twisted lava flow. Good bye, Pahoa. Good bye, beautiful Ocean Temple.
Fantastic place and location next to ocean. Much quieter than Kona area which was what we were looking for. Great bed! Host thought of everything you would need. We loved our 10 day stay and plan on returning!! Thank you for this special spot on the island 🌴
Spacious and beautiful
This exquisite house is the perfect place to stay in the area! The outside black-lava fields and short walk on them exude nature's raw beauty and energy, while the inside spaciousness and Buddist-inspired decor promote inner serenity. The house is fairly new, with modern appliances, and everything worked properly. A short scenic walk along the lava fields gets you to the local-ambiance Kaimu Beach Park and Uncle Robert's. And it's as close as can be for lava touring from the Kalapana side. Oh, and you can hear the ocean all night from the house, or step out and see more stars than you've probably seen in a long time! Perfect for those who want to spend time off the tourist track.
It was wonderful to meet you and host you, and I look forward to your return for more lava viewing adventures!
