Beach vintage beauty
We loved this little beach cabin on the boardwalk. It has some weird little quirks but those just make it more endearing - as do older homes on the beach. We enjoyed the firepit on the little dock and loved the fact that there are no cars! It was very quiet with a gazillion dollar view and even better sunsets. So close to the water that we could hear the waves and water 24/7.
Could be great but has issues
On first impression this house is great. Nice view of the water. Clean and fresh smelling. Nicely decorated. Warmed up nicely. Well stocked kitchen etc. On entry we were well pleased.
But the warts are on the scary side. This is obviously a fairly old structure that has been improved by its owners over the years. But it's not obvious the improvements meet codes as I understand them. The stairs to the upper level are hazardous to say the least. Risers look to be 2X8s leaving them well short of the minimum for safety under current code. (11 inches if I remember correctly). As a result, the staircase is steep and not for the faint of heart. The landing at the top is way too narrow such that when you exit the main bedroom if you misstep you could tumble down stairs. The second BR has a pretty low ceiling in most of the area. We didn't use it so no issue for us.
In the upstairs shower there is a light/fan combo. That is a hazard unless it's rated for use 2 feet from a shower head inside a low ceiling shower stall (easily touched while showering). I doubt it meets code, but could be wrong. Perhaps they have it on a GFI, but no way to know. There are also other missing electrical faceplates here and there. The inspector who kept us on the straight and narrow when we built a house would have had a fit.
The house is a solid 200-250 yards down a beach boardwalk. Not an issue but they claimed "about a 100" in their info. By the time you factor in parking legally up the road, it's probably 300+ yards. We had glorious weather and don't have a problem walking on uneven surfaces, but that distance would be less than fun in a driving rain in the dark. Bring a flashlight!!! Parking is iffy with touchy neighbors.
Couches in LR look to be single beds with some pillows for back support. Not really comfortable unless you just lie down. Kinda wide.
Value for money, it's great as long as you can handle the stairs, other issues and the walking distance.
Beautiful cozy home very comfortable for two couples. Both bedrooms have a lovely view of the water. Quiet neighborhood for a relaxing escape. Would definitely stay again!
Suggestions for improvement - more comfortable furniture for the deck, where we lounged most of our stay. And also some throw blankets to keep the chill away.
magical stay on the water
My sister and I rented the Beachside cabin in June for 4 wonderful days! things we loved...walking down the Boardwalk to our "house". ....opening the door to a lightfilled space for living, dining, cooking and looking thru big windows @ the Olympic Mountains.
Wonderful...up to date bathrooms,(one up, one down). for tubs and showers. Everything we needed for cooking was there...wonderful assortment of glasses and dishes. (we would have liked a toaster!) but who cared? The small Dock in front of the house was perfect for sipping wine and watching, birds, boats, clouds, sunsets etc. @ low tide, we could easily walk down the few steps and walk the beach... we both will return. Thanks Johanna from Northern Cal.
Wonderful family vacay
We had a great time as a family with 2 little ones enjoying our holiday on vashon island. The beach was lots of fun and the location is perfect. The house is quirky but cute and we enjoyed our stay.
Mis-represented terribly. Not for older people or with walking difficulties.
Had to call twice to get info to get into the house. When we went in, we had old coffee in the coffee pot, but no coffee at all in the house, no tellling how long it had been there. No towels except for two people. There were 4 of us. Found them in the dryer on the last day. Had used bar soap in the showers. No extra soft chairs, pictures showed 2. No toaster, picture showed one. Had to park 1/4-1/2 mile away, up a steep hill. Neighbor told us about using wheelbarrows to take luggage down the boardwalk. Bedrooms were up very steep, narrow stairway, small steps, not suitable for older persons or with any walking difficulties. No “welcome book” to be found. No porch canopy/umbrella. No wood for an outside fire pit on the dock. Called agent told her not satisfied, she suggested we move to another rental on the island. By this time we had taken a mattress off one bed upstairs and made a bed out of the two “couches w/1/2” foam on them, for a bed for our friend who had had a stroke. We decided to stay because we would use our time moving instead of trying to enjoy our vacation. The views were very pretty, but that was all that was properly pictured. We let our agent know all of the above. Our last morning we stripped the beds, put them in the upstairs laundry room, emptied all the trash, took it to a dumpster. Swept, cleaned the bathroom, had all dishes washed and put up. The only thing was the mattress down stairs, of which the agent knew about. She called and tried to tell us the house had been left a mess and we owed more money. Absolute lie. The only issue was the mattress. Would not recommend using Jan Nunez as property manager. This rental is for young to middle aged, and in good physical condition only. Very dangerous at the top of the stairs, extremely narrow. Also stairs outside are uneven and difficult. No curtains, except sheers, or none at all . Kitchen had an old broken/glued marble slab, dirty, had to wipe it down, setting on old scaffolding. Bent metal desk, dusty dishes inside cupboard. Had to wash before using. Only had breakfast of fruit there, didn’t feel like washing all the dishes/pots, etc just to eat, so wasted food we had brought to cook. People on Vashon were nice, but this rental we would definitely not recommend.
