beautiful and relaxing
Spent 6 days enjoying nature and each other. Great to get away and bond as a couple!!
Beautiful Hideaway in the Mountains
It was a delight to stay at this hidden treasure for a few days! The Sphinx Park/Elk Creek area has gorgeous mountain views and is close to so many activities. The cabin is well appointed with everything and made our stay very easy - fully stocked kitchen and outdoor grill, cable tv for a little evening unwinding, comfy bed, and adorable tub for soaking in after a long day of hiking! We definitely appreciated the coffee and cream for relaxing on the deck each morning. The creek provides fantastic background music! We were also very happy with Serina's suggestion of visiting Pine Valley Park for a walk around Crystal Lake - it was perfect! Looking forward to returning on our next Colorado trip.
great weather, great cabin, great park nearby, great silence, just great
Perfect for a disc golf vacation with old friends
I and 3 friends go to Colorado once a year to play disc golf on the several outstanding courses near Pine and Conifer. We're all 40-yr-old dads, and this cabin slept us all comfortably. This was by far the nicest place we've stayed. The cabin is far enough outside of Pine to feel like you're away from civilization, but close enough to walk to the Bucksnort Saloon if you feel like mixing with some local folks.
The cabin is right along Elk Creek, which winds down through a long valley that's almost like a canyon by the time you get there. It's mid-morning before the sun peaks over the ridge. The creek runs between the driveway and the cabin and burbles pleasantly in the background. The kitchen is great for cooking — the pantry is sell stocked with the basics and there's a gas stove, microwave and dishwasher(!!!). The bed is comfortable — there's only one — and the living room sofa makes a pretty comfortable place to sleep as well. There's also a futon in the basement.
I hesitated to book this cabin because it doesn't have internet, but man. Three days without the news and Twitter was restorative. The porch is great for sitting with a good book and a cup of coffee. There's cable TV and a landline, so you're not completely cut off from the world.
What else? We didn't see the owner during our three-night stay, but she called before we arrived to let us know about some construction on the road. The construction wasn't an issue for us at all, but we greatly appreciated the heads up. (The construction was fascinating, actually. They were replacing the old narrow corrugated pipes with giant concrete fittings, which meant digging up the road and rerouting the creek. Two dudes with a backhoe did the whole thing themselves. Pretty cool.)
Anyway, yes. Great place to stay. Highly recommend. We'll be checking back next year to see if the place is available.
Kansas City, Mo
Lovely cabin in charming location.
We didn't end up using the house but Serina was so nice and accommodating. We will be rebooking soon because and we are sorry we missed it!
The Cabin in The Woods...
I liked that it was quiet & peaceful. Having no internet was a nice thing. I liked the soap they had in the bathroom. Everything was clean enough, comfortable enough. We barely tried the tv. Bed was comfortable. The kitchen seemed well appointed though we really only used the coffee pot.
THE LESS GOOD:
It was a DRIVE to go anywhere. 10-minute drive just down the dirt road to get to the cabin, not to mention the drive then into town. And yet, it's not isolated - you can see all the other neighboring cabins through every window.
No shampoo/conditioner in the bathroom - so bring your own. Also, there was no fireplace that I saw, and, yet a note read, "Absolutely No Fires".
There is a great big deck off the kitchen, and sure you can see the creek, but really the view is of the dirt road.
We had tickets to Red Rocks Amphetheatre - and for us, it was too far. We would have preferred to stay in Morrison or Evergreen.
If you intend to stay in the cabin and not go anywhere, it's great. Go check out the Buck Snort Saloon just a tiny bit further down the dirt road. But, if you want to go to dinner in Denver, it's a haul - an hour pretty much.
Everything was fine in the cabin - but it didn't suit our needs for this trip. Oh well...
