This is a gem of a house, with a gem of an owner. The owner and her mother --both were there to welcome us- had made and left jams, candied fruits, and fruit juices for us. The house even has its own house wine in a small barrel (rather strong). We called them 30 minutes after they had left us to ask a question and they turned back to show us. These are very decent people. Nothing is cheap in the house: the bedding, the towels, the particulars are all of high quality. The house itself is on a hill with a breath-taking view. The morning breakfasts were spent watching the surrounding hills; to watch the stars at night, we went to the back terrace. On the top of the hill where the house is located, there is a nice church and a very small, picturesque road going north-south through the island. There are several great restaurants around, with Spiralaki being an excellent one, with one of the best mizithra I had (from the family farm). We stayed there four nights --had I known, we would have stayed longer, as it is a great place to explore Western Crete.
