A lovely place
The setting of this house is so lovely - you can hear the bells from the Abbey down the road and listen to the Owls at night. The garden is fabulous with plenty of space for children to play and adults to relax. The location is also great, being so close to Bayeux but feeling so remote. We loved our stay
I would make two comments however. The bathroom set up is quite unusual, being open to the bedroom and on view from the door. This did not worry us, but I know people who would struggle with the arrangement and I think it should probably be made clear. Also, lovely as the house itself is, it really needs a lot of the personal memorabilia to be removed in order for it feel comfortable as a holiday let.
Despite these two factors, we would recommend Marcia for a holiday (possibly not with small children)
Thank you for writing your review and adding your useful comments.
I am glad you all enjoyed your stay. But it must be pointed out that my home is not a "holiday let".
Highly recommend this property for a holiday!
Having travelled to Normandy on several occasions and to date this is the best property that we have stayed in. The house is conveniently situated in a beautiful part of Normandy, close to Bayeux for The Tapestry, supermarkets and shopping. Not to distant are the WW2 sites i.e. D-Day landing beaches, Arromanche (Mulberry Harbour), Benouville (Pegasus bridge) and the military cemetaries (very emotional, especially if you are on a pilgrimage as we were).
Just down the road from Marcia there is the Abbey Mondaye, well worth a visit, the sound of the bells will draw you there.
The house is very comfortable set to a high standard with surrounding gardens and in an orchard in which the grand kids played and we relaxed.
Dawn and Jean, the house is a credit to your refurbishment programme and we thank you for your hospitality shown to us during our stay.

Great location, peaceful and charming
Our family had a great stay at Marcia cottage. The location was perfect for visiting Bayeux and the Normandy Beaches with a young family- most sights were 20-30 mins by car. The owners were welcoming and knowledgable. Email communication was prompt and useful. We would recommend a visit here!

Staying at the Charming Marcia Cottage
We recently stayed at the very charming "Marcia" and felt the need to express our gratitude for the comfort we were provided. We knew it was going to be pleasant, but didn't count on the wonderful sounds of nature: the mooing of the cows, the chirping of the birds and the ringing of the nearby Abbey bells! We loved the day we took a break from sight seeing and chose to stay around to enjoy the peace and beauty of the gardens and the walk down the lane to the Abbey. The proximity to Bayeaux is important as that city offers many wonderful dining, shopping, and sight seeing opportunities. It made for a nice change of scene from the solemnity of the WWII sites. We have wonderful memories.
Thank you for taking such good care of us!
Lovely to read how much you enjoyed Marcia. We usually stay there only in winter when the whole ambience is changed....log fires, crisp mornings, bracing country walks. However, I am there right now for some painting job's, and loving every minute of these long warm relaxing days. Thank you for writing and we hope very much you or your family or friends will be here again. Dawn and Jean
Marcia Cottage Stay
Thank you for a very pleasant stay in Normandy. Everything was spotless and ready for us to enjoy on our arrival.
We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and found your cottage was as we had planned … absolutely perfect for the places we planned to visit.
Whichever direction we headed off for our daily visits, we never had to travel more than 45-50 mins to reach one of our chosen WW2 sites.
The convenience of Bayeux, only 10-15 mins drive was excellent. There were different large supermarkets to choose from, as well as other smaller shops.
The Normandie War Museum and Bayeux War Cemetery are on the entry road to Bayeux from the cottage.
My daughters spent many happy hours playing in the gardens on the occasions that we stayed in and relaxed. They loved going out and playing badminton in the open space opposite the kitchen door.
Everyone enjoyed strolls around the Orchard and extensive gardens.
Sitting in the gardens and listening to the mix of wildlife and the feint sound of the bells ringing at the Abbey further along the lane, whilst sipping a cold drink was such a relaxing change from the hustle and bustle of regular life.
As well as thoroughly enjoying our visits to the historic sites we had planned, we were also very taken with Normandy in general and will definitely return in the future to continue this adventure.
Thank you once again and best wishes to you and your guests yet to come.
The Booth Family
Thank you Booth family for these comments. We were delighted that you had enjoyed your stay, and also pleased that you found our home comfortable and welcoming. We love the cottage, and have had many happy hours in it, and gained in experiences from the constant D.I.Y. jobs we have done. If others are able to appreciate what the area and the cottage itself has to offer, we cound this as a huge bonus. Many thanks- Dawn
Bayeux bietet zahlreiche gute Supermärkte und viele Banken. Die große Auswahl an Restaurants bietet etwas für jeden Geschmack und Geldbeutel.
