Nice little cottage in a pretty village
Nice cottage, well equipped (only question: where in the kitchen is the cutting board?), good location, close to two pubs, instructions on how to find it and how to get the keys easy to follow. No complaints.
wonderfully cosy and extremely well equipped cottage
We had a three night break with plenty of walking - the car didn't move until we had to come home. We had a wonderful meal at The Wensleydale Heifer next door and would happily do a return visit. One downside: the traffic did affect the quality of sleep which is a shame as the bed was so comfy!
A great long weekend!
Comfortable, warm, well appointed cottage with plentiful hot water! This proved an ideal location for a long weekend at the end of August, very convenient being next door to the Wensleydale Heifer - an excellent restaurant/hotel. Good walking from the door as well as being well located for travelling to other parts of Wensleydale. We were able to revisit old haunts and it was god to find that places such as the Sandpiper Inn in Leyburn were as good as ever. Only drawback with the main street location is perhaps the parking when the Heifer is busy - on arrival we had to park some way down the main street as the Heifer was very busy, however we were usually able to park close to door or in the Heifer car park.
Many thanks for leaving this review and we are so pleased that you had an enjoyable time in Yorkshire and staying at Rose Cottage. I am afraid that the road is sometimes an issue - it does mean that the cottage is accessible in bad weather but weekend evening time can mean that those eating at the Wensleydale Heifer park outside our cottage because of the restrictions further down the road. So sorry that this coincided with your arrival and made unpacking tricky but do trust that it did not spoil your overall experience. With kind regards, Anita Rendall
Lovely clean property
Amazing holiday in an amazing place. Highly recommend.
Dear Dominic, Thank you very much for leaving a review and we are so thrilled that you enjoyed both the cottage and the area. With kind regards, Anita Rendall
For us West Witton was well located on the A684, being a simple drive from the A!(M) to arrive and another simple drive to the M6 when leaving. A general store about 50 yards from the cottage was very useful and for greater choice Leyburn was only a short drive away. For pub meals The Fox is only about 100 yards away and for classy gourmet food The Wensleydale Heifer is adjacent to the cottage. We ate in both.
Many walks start within a short distance. We managed a couple-the first a circular walk from Aysgarth with a halfway stop at Castle Bolton where we spent time in the castle which has a very interesting history. The other started at Reeth and included a level stretch alongside the river Swale back to the village. Level was welcome after going up steep stony paths in 30C heat. No complaints; we enjoy our walks and the views from the higher reaches are stunning.
Rose Cottage was all we could have wished for, being very clean and comfortable and with more facilities than we need on holiday. It is a home one could live in.
Dear Stanley, Thank you very much for taking the time to leave this review and we are so pleased that you had a lovely holiday and some great weather too. With kind regards, Anita Rendall
Cosy base for the Dales
This is a very well equipped and cosy cottage. There are 2 good sized bedrooms and large bathroom upstairs, and a large lounge/dining space with separate kitchen downstairs. We were glad of the central heating in the evenings and there was also a wood burning stove had we wished to use it. There's a small courtyard garden at the back. The cottage is next door to a hotel/restaurant. People parked outside the cottage but it didn't disturb us, and we were able to use the hotel car park. West Witton is a bit of a "drive through" village with quite a lot of traffic passing, and it is not the prettiest village but is a good base for exploring the area and has a shop, pub and the hotel.
We are glad that you enjoyed our cottage, the community in West Witton and the Dales and hope that the weather was good.
Our garden at Rose Cottage is a walled garden with both grass and gravel and beautiful and fragrant Gertrude Jekyll roses climbing up the walls - the scent is lovely in the evening and they are stunning this year after so much rain. We hope that you were able to enjoy them.
We also hope that you were able to enjoy a meal at the Wensleydale Heifer Restaurant (it is a restaurant with rooms rather than a hotel) which people travel from far and wide to enjoy and which we are lucky to have in the village as well as a traditional pub. All tastes covered hopefully. The Restaurant also kindly allow our guests to use their car park when the village is busy.
My only other comment is out of loyalty to the friendly folk of West Witton, we would describe the village less as "drive through" and more as accessible. It has a vibrant Yorkshire community, full of great characters, which we do not live in full time but enjoy hugely when we are able to be there.
With kind regards,
